He folded his hands in front of him, looking straight ahead as the wind carried the smell of wet pavement in the air. The dark clouds hung low as if the slightest breeze would slice through and release the rainfall that they so heavily concealed. He took a deep breath, more ready than ever to turn around, his hands itching to hold her. She walked up the path and seconds ticked by as if underwater, and the minute hand seemed to stick to the clock. He could feel her eyes on his back, and just when the anticipation was almost too much to bear, he turned around and saw her. The second they locked eyes, she ran to him with her arms open wide as her blonde curls bounced behind her. He looked at her as if he couldn’t believe this was the woman he would spend the rest of his life with, and he felt more grateful than he’d ever thought possible. She wrapped her arms around his neck and held him tight, and those few moments made her heart flutter as she looked up at the clouds over his shoulder.
After a crazy day of running in and out to avoid the sprinkling and pouring, we found ourselves shooting their bridal portraits in the soft green desert, with only minutes of dry skies. During their beautiful ceremony, Kyle and Jessica had a butterfly release to honor her incredible father’s memory. We had placed a butterfly on her bouquet for a photo, and twenty minutes and a golf card ride later, we were in this gorgeous spot, capturing their love. It came to a point where I had forgotten about that little butterfly on her bouquet, thinking it had flown away long ago. It wasn’t until later at my computer that I discovered that little guy still latched on her flowers, despite the windy conditions. It took my breath away. It was clear that they had a someone so close and special right there with them the whole day, and we laughed as the rain began to drizzle when our session was reaching its end. I don’t think it was a coincidence that the weather was the same at their rainy engagement session, and the beautiful rainbow that appeared that day was just another sign from Heaven. Their wedding was such a special and blessed day, surrounded by the most incredible friends and family (I have never seen a dance floor so full that I couldn’t get from one side of the room to the other)! This day was a true testament of the love that surrounds these two, and I am so thankful to have been a part of it. Kyle and Jessica, I am so in love with your love and so incredibly happy for you! Never stop holding each other so tight or laughing so hard your eyes can’t help but squeeze shut. Never forget the way you felt on this day, and the faces your loved ones made as you twirled on the dance floor. But most of all, never stop giving each other butterflies, for that kind of love can whether even the darkest of storms.
