“Wonder whose arms will hold you good and tight
When it’s exactly twelve o’clock that night
Welcoming in the New Year
New Year’s Eve”
She slowly ripped open the wrapping, smiling with excitement, realizing that this was just the beginning of an incredible, enchanting day. As she drew back the Christmas paper, a smile crept into the corners of her mouth as tears filled her eyes. In a large, wooden frame, a photo of them together brought back memories from that day in the snow, and her heart fluttered. But the words, the words that accompanied the photo in small white font are what overwhelmed her before her wedding day in that hotel room, with fresh curls in her hair and her lace robe tied around her waist. “Reasons Why I Love You.” And there, within their engagement photo he listed some of the reason that she’s his favorite person in the world, reminding her the true meaning of this unforgettable occasion. Then, she unwrapped a second frame, revealing a photo of their “furbaby;” a red puppy they had created a home with together, who they had rescued and given so much love to. In that moment, Kristin had never been more ready to walk down the aisle…
I met Joey and Kristin at the beginning of 2015, and when she told me they had planned a New Years Eve wedding, I could have not been more excited! It was only fitting that we shot their engagement session in Flagstaff surrounded by powdery white snow, to give their wedding theme that extra touch of Winter. From the shimmering gold accents to the classic navy details, it was truly the perfect NYE affair. Their guests wore gowns with silk gloves and furs, inspired by the Gatsby era, and champagne was flowing everywhere you looked. Gold sequinced table cloths adorned with silver dusted trees graced every table, and each table number sported a New Year’s resolution from the bride and groom. We had to pinch ourselves to remind each other that the countdown wasn’t leading up to the year 1926, but 2016, and I could not have thought of a better way to spend my last night of the year. Doing what I love with people I love. It was a sparkling evening, almost as dazzling as the stars in their eyes and the bubbles in their glasses. Witnessing Joey and Kristin’s big day was such a privilege and a party, and I’m so thankful I met these two last Winter. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Wassinger, thank you for ending 2015 with a bang! Cue the fireworks!
