Kelli & Ian’s Lavender Wedding in the Woods

Everyone in the room rose to their feet and turned their attention to the large barn doors. The room was illuminated with candles and twinkling lights with lavender flowers covering every table and silver linens catching fragmented gleams of light. The DJ announced the bride and groom for their grand entrance, and the room roared with applause and and whistling as everyone was so excited for the newlyweds. I thought to myself, “Ok, time to capture their romantic first dance, I wonder what song they chose?” Usually couples choose sweet songs I’ve heard many times before, so I waited to hear something familiar. And as those first few notes played, I realized this song was familiar, but not what I had expected at all. “I can show you the world…shining, shimmering, splendid…” Kelli and Ian theatrically lip synced to each other with big arm movements and twirling dramatically as everyone was overcome with laughter. My cheeks hurt from laughing so hard! It was so funny, so personal, and so THEM! One of the most unforgettable first dances ever! Just amazing.

There were so many personal moments that made Kelli and Ian’s day so unique to their personalities, from their gifts to each other, to their wedding party dancing in the middle of group photos! We all fully expected rain, with thunder and dark clouds hovering above our heads the entire day. I had my umbrellas folded and ready to be used, and shot all their details under a patio, but never felt a single drop! From what I heard from guests, it was sprinkling in the venue’s parking lot, and stopped at the entrance of the ceremony site…What?! Another special moment was when the ceremony was supposed to begin, Ian announced that they were going to wait for one of the best men to arrive, who wasn’t supposed to be able to make it until the reception because of a very important life event. He was about 30 minutes away, so we rolled with the punches and decided to take their bride and groom portraits during that time. It actually worked out perfectly as the sky was dark and cloudy! I love how things just work out sometimes…like these two. Their marriage is going to be beautiful because they were simply made for each other. Kelli and Ian, thank you so much for letting me share this whole new world (day) with you. Your wedding was so stunning, and you deserve all the happiness, unbelievable sights, and indescribable feelings ever! Cheers!
