Our Nursery

Oh, baby girl. I can’t wait to meet you. I come into your room almost every day and sit in the rocking chair, picturing what it will be like to rock you here. I go into your closet and look at your tiny clothes and wonder what you’ll look like in them. Will you have dark hair? What color will your eyes be? Will you look like me or your dad, or a little bit of both? But more importantly, I wonder what kind of person you will grow up to be, and I’m going to do my best to raise you “right.” And my heart races when I think about how our lives are about to be turned upside down, but I know you’ll be worth it. And as much as I’m loving having you all to myself, I can’t wait to see your dad hold you. I can’t wait to meet you, but for now, I dream of you in here.

I can’t begin to explain how surreal it felt to put this nursery together, and now Jerrin and I joke how it’s our favorite room in our house (and that it’s way cooler than ours)! And I know that she may not sleep in here for a while, it’s going to get messy, pretty things will be broken or stained, and have been told “we probably won’t go all out for our second kid’s nursery.” But if we’re really being honest, the nursery is for the parents, fulfilling that need to create a space for new baby! And I’m ok with that! When designing her room, I actually pulled a ton of inspiration from the beautiful weddings I’ve shot this year! I loved the dusty blue trend which inspired our paint choice, and of course I mixed it with blush because it’s my absolute favorite! I’ve known for years that no matter what we were having, I would incorporate aspects of Neverland in the nursery because I’m obsessed with Peter Pan! The idea of little ones never growing up is also just about the sweetest thing ever 🙂 If you look hard enough, you can see subtle Neverland touches, like a map, stars, indian arrows, a quote from the book, and a rose gold crocodile. The crocodile was actually the first piece in the room given as a gift, which inspired the rose gold aspects throughout! Love. I found most of the sweet little pieces online from tons of different brands, and made the oversized floral out of cardboard, hot glue, silk florals/greenery, and a lot of patience haha! Speaking of that particular letter, be sure to search for her name in one place in the room! We’ve loved that name for a while, and when we found it was a girl we knew that was what she would be called. It still doesn’t seem real that in two short months we will be a family of three, but when I come in here it sinks in and my nerves seem to vanish. We’re so excited for the road ahead and I couldn’t be more thankful to be sharing this crazy journey with my best friend. As the boy who never grew up said, “To live will be an awfully big adventure.” And I can’t wait for this one to begin.
