The sky was the kind of gray where you cannot distinguish any clouds from one another; just a smear of cement-colored paint hovering above with drops sprinkling below. I rolled my wagon of gear and 10 umbrellas into the lobby as the wheels creaked from the humidity, glancing out onto the terrace as the trees blew and the rain picked up. As a photographer, my heart honestly raced a bit, wondering how the day would go with the weather. As the door opened to Margi’s room, her smile was so bright and genuine, I knew I had nothing to worry about. As I shot her details, she relaxed with her bridesmaids (as cool as a cucumber) as the thunder cracked outside. I was astounded. She was just elated to marry her best friend, that’s it. It was simple. It didn’t matter what the weather was doing, or that the day had to be moved inside, she was just ready to be his wife. And that was absolutely beautiful to witness.
As the day proceeded, Dave met me with a similar infectious smile, equally as excited as his bride, and as we headed outside to officially begin their photos, I was stunned to see the most beautifully clear skies above us! And that’s how it stayed for hours! And I’m not exaggerating when I say, the MINUTE we started to walk inside after we had completely finished three hours worth of outdoor photos, it started to rain again. What was supposed to be a nightmare weather situation turned into glowing light portraits without a single drop hitting our heads. It was incredible, and such a gift from God to capture these two, and I knew the way it played out was so meant to be. And with lighting flickering behind them outside the window to their indoor ceremony, they said their vows in front of those who meant the world to them. It was perfect.
Margi and David, words cannot express how happy I am that you two met on that plane. I can’t believe I got to witness so many magic moments in your story, and I know the best is yet to come. For better or worse, richer or poorer, rain or shine, you two are meant to be together. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Christoff!
